  • Cross-dressing is the wearing of clothing and other accoutrement commonly associated with a gender within a particular society that is seen as different than the one usually presented by the dresser.
  • (Crossdressers) cross dress, that is, wear clothes usually worn by people of the opposite biological sex. Most do not identify themselves as having a gender identity fundamentally different from their biological sex or gender role.
  • (Cross-Dressing) To occasionally wear clothes traditionally associated with people of the other sex. Cross-dressers are usually comfortable with the sex they were assigned at birth and do not wish to change it.

Out & About: The Emancipated Crossdresser
Out & About: The Emancipated Crossdresser
“Out & About” is an intelligent, fresh, and light-hearted look at crossdressing. Ms. Leigh writes, with no psychological mumbo-jumbo, to enlighten and encourage crossdressers ultimately to dump their guilt, shame, and denial so they may finally and fully express their feminine attributes in taste and style.
“Out & About” was recently selected for inclusion in the assortment of books distributed to public and scholastic libraries by Tri-Ess, the international sorority for heterosexual crossdressers.
This book (160 pages, soft cover, perfect bound, lots of photos and illustrations) is also an ideal resource for outreach as well as an introduction for wives and significant others. It includes how-to chapters on femme essentials, shopping, photography, dining, travel, and much more.
Lacey stresses that a crossdresser’s mindset is a prime factor and suggests a simple formula for gaining a positive attitude:
Accept yourself – denial doesn’t work;
Assert yourself – you deserve the best;
Allow yourself – to enjoy your new freedom.

My Husband Betty: Love, Sex, and Life with a Crossdresser
Author Helen Boyd is a happily married woman whose husband enjoys sharing her wardrobe—and she has written the first book on transgendered men to focus on their relationships and their female partners. Traditionally known as cross-dressers, transvestites, or drag queens, men like Helen’s husband are diverse and don’t always conform to stereotype. Many of the older transvestites are socially conservative, deeply closeted, and devout churchgoers. Helen addresses every imaginable question concerning the reasons for behavior that still baffles not only “mental health professionals” but the practitioners themselves; the taxonomy of the transgendered and the distinct but overlapping societies of each group; coming out; bisexuality; and homophobia. The book features interviews with some very interesting people, all of whom struggle and love: dominatrix and her cross-dressing husband; a crossdressing Reiki master and his son; a woman who after dating one cross-dresser wanted to date others and met—and fell in love with—a transsexual instead; a woman whose husband promised her he was only a cross-dresser and later realized that he was transsexual. This is a book about relationships that will engage the reader, and Helen’s narrative is a powerful lens with which to examine our own notions of gender and equality.
